Duffle Up
This project provides duffels filled
with age-appropriate items for children entering foster
care. Time required: Flexible hours Location: NCJW Office, Lawrence
(ESL) English as a Second Language
Volunteers tutor individuals or
small group so foreign born students who have a limited
knowledge of English, in elementary, middle and high
schools within school districts # 14, #15 and Lynbrook
District #20. Time required: Flexible hours

(TLC) Tutorial and Learning Center
Volunteers provide a variety of
personalized and meaningful experiences including TENDER
LOVING CARE to specially selected Pre-K, kindergarten
and first grade children at the Franklin Early Childhood

(PENT) Peninsula
Educational Nursery for Threes
This project, housed in
the Early Childhood Center at the Franklin School,
provides a stimulating, educational program for
specially selected three-year-olds. Volunteers work
under professional supervision with youngsters and their
mothers to develop cognitive growth. Qualifications for
volunteering are reliability and love of children. Time required: 9:30 - 11:30 AM, one morning a week Location: Franklin Elementary School, Henrietta Place,

Five Towns Child Care Center
NCJW Peninsula Section
provides children 18 months to 4 years old with a
One-to-One Buddy Program designed to meet the individual
needs of identified children of working parents. An
individual relationship will be formed between one child
and one NCJW volunteer. Additionally, the volunteer will
have the opportunity to enjoy activities with the entire
group. Social workers and teachers will provide
direction and supervision for each volunteer on a
monthly basis and as needed. Time required: Morning hours / days flexible Location: 112 Wahl Avenue, Inwood
(STEP) Special Tutorial Educational Program
In cooperation with the
Lawrence School District, the program matches volunteers
with elementary age children on a one-to-one basis.
Volunteers provide nurturing and encouragement to help
the children feel good about themselves, and are
provided with materials by the classroom teachers to use
with their special students. Volunteers may choose to
work with more than one student at #1 and #6 schools. Time required: 1 -2 hours a week, flexible hours and
